Trail Ethics

No alcohol or drug use (either by drivers or passengers) at any time while participating in trail runs.

Be honest with yourself and others if you think your vehicle will have problems on the trail.

Stay ON the trail. Driving off-trail can give reason for the trail to be closed in the future.

Pack out all your garbage. Carry extra plastic grocery or garbage bags for trash.  Pick up and pack out any trash that you find, even if it's not your own.

Keep cigarette butts inside your vehicle. Do NOT drop them onto the ground when you are outside of your vehicle. It may be cliche but "only you can prevent forest fires".

Leave good spacing between vehicles. On very steep areas, let one vehicle at a time climb the section. A vehicle may descend a climb backwards, rapidly, and out of control. Stay out of harm's way.

Do not leave the group. Inform someone if you need to stop.  Use your CB or flash your lights.

Each driver should be responsible for the vehicle BEHIND him.  Keep the driver behind you in view.  If everyone does this, the group will always stay together.

Be courteous to other vehicles and groups on the trail -- even if they are not.

Uphill traffic has the right-of-way (with a few exceptions):

  1. If a large group is coming downhill and just a few heading uphill, the uphill group should yield the right-of-way.
  2. On very long, narrow- or ledge-type trails, the group or vehicle closest to an area big enough to safely pull over should YIELD the right of way to vehicles without such a safe pull-off opportunity. (On this type of trail, plan ahead and keep your eyes open for the wide areas. Remember how far past them you have gone. The nearest safe pull-off may be behind you, and you may have to back up.)
