4WD GAMES
Please read these descriptions if you're going to participate in the Games.
RAMP TRAVEL
This is a measure of how far your vehicle can drive one front tire up a
twenty-five degree ramp before any of the other remaining wheels leaves
the ground. This measurement is expressed as a fraction of your
vehicle's wheelbase (like a batting average) in order to prevent longer
vehicles from having an unfair advantage.
There will be 3 classes: Stock, Modified and Extreme. Specifications
for each class are listed below.
The following rules apply to ALL classes.
Each registered participant will be allowed one attempt on the ramp for
a score. There must be a minimum of 25 psi in all 4 tires. The driver's
side front tire must be on the ramp for a score to be valid.
BINDER BALANCE
This event is a perennial favorite. The object is to drive your vehicle
onto the apparatus and remain balanced for as long as possible. Low
gears, a light touch on the clutch (if applicable) and the ability to
resist over-reacting are the keys to this contest. Due to time
constraints, each registered participant will be allowed one attempt on
the ramp. Each attempt will consist of three touches. (If the apparatus
hits the ground, that's a "touch"!)
ICE RACING IN THE DIRT
Another favorite -- The track design is the same one used by OUR GANG
FOUR WHEELERS for ice racing here in Colorado. Depending on the number
of vehicles signed up, we may run "heads up" or divide into classes
(for example, 800s run 800s, Scout IIs run Scouts IIs, etc.). The
street and competition vehicles will run separately.
Registered participants interested in racing must sign up at Gryphin
Racing Team Saturday morning. Practice runs will be made on Saturday
afternoon. The races will be run on Sunday - the street vehicles in the
morning and the competition vehicles in the afternoon.
A visual check of participating vehicles will be made during practice.
Helmets and seat belts are required - for both driver and any
passenger. (If you have a helmet, bring it, only a couple helmets will
be available.) If a seat belt unfastens during a race, stop the vehicle
and raise both arms to signal the track official to restart the race.
No dogs in the vehicle while racing. No loose objects inside or on top
of the vehicle. Battery must be securely tied down.
You will be disqualified if:
- You do not complete the entire course.
- You do not drive around the outside of the corner cones.
- You "jump" the start signal (do not leave before the flag leaves the ground).
- Your vehicle touches a cone - whether it is knocked over or not.
- The chin strap of your helmet is not fastened.
SLED PULL
Back by popular demand, this event pits your vehicle's drivetrain and traction
against an official pulling sled. See how far you can go before you get bogged
down.
This event requires a solid hitch and a judicious right foot. Rules and classes
will be provided during sign-up.
